Focus on social

Mark Zuckerberg has noted at the start of Facebook’s share float that the intention of the site is to remain social – not to make money for shareholders. This seems to be good news with regard to trying to build a social network where people are the key “data set”. Connecting people with people seems to still be the prime goal, rather than connecting people with products they could buy or engage with; while this is the case the possibility of people being woven into the web in a real way seems to be a real possibility. Whether having extra money will enable Facebook to do better at their goal remains to be seen, but it’s a start.
