Early adopters for a digital presence

Would the people whose diary entries are included in this book have realised that one day many of their entries would be available to anyone in the world in digital form? In many ways it doesn’t matter when material was written, if it can be digitised it can be on the web. Diary writers of past times may not have realised how many  people might eventually read what they have written, but the quality of the content seems to be on a par with today’s bloggers;  maybe they did have an idea of what was coming?
